Who are we?
The Rice University Solar Car team is an interdisciplinary group consisting of students from various engineering disciplines and the natural sciences. We’re all current Rice students and we are advised by Dr. Andrew Dick, a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department.
What is our mission?
The Rice Solar Car Team’s mission is to provide opportunities for students from across the University to learn and practice skills vital in their development as engineers, professionals, and leaders in industry and academia by involving them in large- scale, interdisciplinary, hands-on engineering projects centered around the design and construction of full-sized solar powered vehicles to race in local, national, and international competitions.
Specifically, we are in the process of designing and building Rice’s first solar car. We will enter the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas, a high-efficiency vehicle race held annually in downtown Houston, in March 2012.
Why should I get involved?
